Basic gear includes Mask, Snorkel, Fins and Booties. The ABCs of basic gear are Fit Function and Style. Basic gear has to fit or it will not work well. A poorly fitted mask will leak and make any diving experience miserable. Likewise, the rest of your basic gear should properly fit to avoid problems. Function is also key. Fins that are too stiff or not stiff enough are just as bad as a snorkel that constantly floods. Finally come style. Different people prefer a different style of mask, snorkel, fins or booties.
